Writer/director Jordan Peele's urban horror classic, Get Out, was a certified smash with fans and critics, collecting a whopping $255 million in worldwide box-office cash off a minuscule $4.5 million budget. That's a tidy profit for this topical indie terror-fest!
And in a rare moment of 2017 Academy Awards clarity, Get Out was honored with four nominations, for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Peele also took home a deserved gold statue for his solid efforts on the superbly scary script.
Besides some compelling performances from Peele's cast, crackerjack editing, and a distinctive visual style reminiscent of iconic genre flicks, Get Out also excelled in the sound department, especially with the disturbing musical score by first-time composer Michael Abels.
New Orleans-based Waxwork Records collaborated exclusively with Peele and Abels to deliver a sterling 2-LP remastered edition of the film's eerie soundtrack, pressed on premium 180-gram "Garden Party Green" colored vinyl. This prestige release features the entire soundtrack by Abels, deluxe packaging, fresh cover artwork by Leslie Herman, a printed insert with brand-new extensive liner notes by Jordan Peele, and retro-style tip-on gatefold jackets accented with satin coating.
“I had some ideas," Peele writes in the in-depth essay addressing his approach to the movie's music. "I envisioned distinctly black voices harmonically creating an unnatural sound. The absence of hope. The void of the voiceless. A disembodied Negro spiritual. The Sunken Place.”
Waxwork's co-founder and CEO, Kevin Bergeron, is a self-proclaimed horror aficionado and says producing their latest offering has been a rewarding and fun experience.
"Working with the immensely talented and creative Jordan Peele and composer Michael Abels has been an absolute highlight for Waxwork Records," Bergeron told SYFY WIRE. "It's monumental. Get Out isn't only a great horror movie, it's also important cinema. We sincerely hope to see more cerebral, conscious filmmaking that tackles social issues from Peele and anyone else that is ready to rattle some cages."
