Don’t have thousands of dollars to buy Nike’s ultra-limited, official Back to the Future 2 Air Mags they released a few years ago? Good news: We finally have an affordable alternative.
Back in 2011, Nike auctioned off 1,500 pairs of Air Mag replicas to raise nearly $5.7 million for charity. That’s awesome, yeah, but the Average Joe sci-fi fan couldn’t afford the steep entry price. Heck, a few of those pairs are still available on eBay if you have $7,000+ to burn.
Well, HalloweenCostumes.com is looking out for the rest of us. The costume company is now stocking an officially licensed “Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes” replica for a cool $98.99. They look almost exactly like Marty McFly’s kicks that we all know and love, minus the patented Nike logo. The product was licensed by Universal Studios, which owns the shoe design, but obviously not the Nike bits. But who are we to quibble?
The shoes look sharp, and definitely nail pretty much every aesthetic of the fictional future-shoes. You get LED lights in the soles (with an included USB cable to recharge 'em), and velcro power laces (since actual power laces don’t exist, apparently). Oh, it’s also missing the light-up Nike logo, obviously, but we digress.
The shoes have proven extremely popular since hitting the market, and are currently sold out of every size until at least the end of the month. So if you’re interested in rocking your own pair of Air Mags, we’d recommend you put in a preorder pronto.
