“Yeah, I have no idea where it’s heading,” Harris tells HuffPo. “We’re not supposed to start shooting Season 3 until next June, so I don’t even know if I’m in it or not. I figure I am? But I don’t know in what capacity, and I don’t know what the what will be happening. We’ll find out.”
In a separate interview with Vulture, Harris admits: “I’m as confused as anybody else watching this thing. I don’t always know what’s going on.”
This is not to say that he’s not confident playing his role — or that he needs to know the show’s master plan. He explained that when working for the second season “I knew the path that my character was on and where I was headed.”
“What I didn’t know, I didn’t know,” Harris tells Vulture. “I was going episode by episode, particularly scenes, characters, who I was working with, and what was going on. I didn’t really fret about what I didn’t know because I didn’t know what I didn’t know.”
When HuffPo asked the actor if he ever theorized with the rest of the cast about what’s going to happen, Harris said that’s not really his thing. “Well, I have a feeling maybe Evan does with Thandie [Newton] or James [Marsden] or something, but I don’t really get into it too much,” he said. “Just trying to do my thing, you know?”
Harris plays William (billed as the Man in Black), an ultrarich philanthropist and esteemed pillar of society who, with the help of the Westworld theme park, discovers that deep down he’s a bloodthirsty sociopath.
Westworld’s Season 2 finale airs this Sunday, June 24, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
