Ask any nerd or geek, and they will probably tell you that movie posters are modern-day fine art. Just talk to the good folks over at Mondo, whose posters regularly sell out in minutes and can go for $500 or more on eBay. Or check in with Gallery 1988, or any one of a number of pop-culture-related galleries in Los Angeles, who regularly hold gallery shows with film and television themes.
Now Invaluable.com has put that to the test, reimagining classic movie posters in the manner of some of the world's greatest painters: Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Claude Monet.
Naturally, several of these posters are for some of the greatest genre films of all time: E.T., Silence of the Lambs, Jaws, and Ghostbusters. I would bet that you've probably seen the non-genre films, too: Breakfast at Tiffany's and Lolita.
If you can't match the poster with the artist in the gallery below, head on over to the art and design site for the answers, as well as a bit of history on each past master. Then let us know in the comments other movie posters you'd love to see painted by the masters.
