What's next for Trek and Fringe writers and producers? DRAGONS!

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are busy guys. They're wrapping up work on Star Trek 2 with J.J. Abrams, waiting for the final season of Fringe to air, writing the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, producing Ender's Game and overseeing reboots of Van Helsing and The Mummy.

Now it seems they're adding another project to their genre empire, and this time they're after dragons.

The duo have just signed on to produce Dragonology, a Universal Pictures project based on a series of bestselling children's books by various authors. The books present dragons as a reality and feature text on all aspects of dragon culture. The film will reportedly follow a group of dragonologists who must fight for the fate of humanity after they discover a plot to wipe out the human race using the last dragons in the world. Universal first picked up the property four years ago, and now it's time for Kurtzman and Orci to turn their hitmaking powers on it.

Though they will be overseeing the scripting process, Kurtzman and Orci won't be writing Dragonology themselves. Even they don't seem to have the time for that. Still, having them in the driver's seat is definitely a boost to any project. We'll just have to wait and see who they rope in to write and, eventually, direct this one.

What do you think? Now that they've ventured into young adult sci-fi with Ender's Game, can Orci and Kurtzman deliver on children's fantasy as well?
