Put down those binoculars! If you've been watching the skies waiting for an alien invasion a la V, well, that scenario won't be happening anytime soon, at least if the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence can be trusted.

After investigating more than 12,000 reports—including 135 in the past year alone—the MoD, which had been assessing the threat posed by any unidentified flying object sightings throughout Britain, has taken itself off the case, according to the London Telegraph.

According to its own site, the Ministry of Defence reports that "in over fifty years, no UFO report has revealed any evidence of a potential threat to the United Kingdom" and that "the dedicated UFO hotline answer-phone service and e-mail address will be withdrawn. MOD will no longer respond to reported UFO sightings or investigate them."

Does this mean it's safe to take off our tinfoil hats?
