Despite the fact that original Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt has dropped out of the upcoming sequel, Fox remains keen to get a sequel made sooner rather than later. So meet the list of potential successors.
Deadline has put together a list of seven candidates they say are all in the hunt to helm Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
In no particular order, the list includes Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim), Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper), J. Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed, The Descent: Part 2), Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) and Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible).
Not surprisingly, it's a who's-who of some of the hotter directors currently on the scene, and it's nice to see they're looking at several guys with some sci-fi experience.
Honestly, most of these picks could probably do it justice—and it's pretty obvious that the surprise success of Rise has given this project a lot more clout than its predecessor had coming down the pike.
So who are you pulling for to get the job?
