Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse is among the more exciting upcoming movie projects we're paying attention to, and it just got even bigger. It was already an epic directed by a legendary filmmaker, and now we're hearing an Avenger is the frontrunner to star. But which one?
Word's coming from Deadline that Spielberg is after the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, to star in the flick based on Daniel H. Wilson's novel about humanity's battle with a robot uprising.
Apparently Spielberg met with Hemsworth amid much secrecy, and no official offer has been made yet, but it's an intriguing combination of director and actor that would make Hemsworth an even bigger star. He's already had the dual hits of Thor and The Avengers in the past two years, not to mention the box-office success of Snow White and the Huntsman. A collaboration with Spielberg, along with Thor 2, could take his career to a new level.
Spielberg is still busy with his massive biopic Lincoln, so we could be waiting a while before anything else about this film takes shape, but what we know already has us excited. It's Spielberg returning to a hard sci-fi story that's been compared to the work of Michael Crichton, with a script from The Cabin in the Woods co-writer Drew Goddard, and now an Avenger possibly in the lead role. We'll have to wait until 2014 to see the flick, but we're already pumped.
