A sequel to Clash of the Titans is in the works possibly for spring 2012, with Sam Worthington again playing Perseus, but director Louis Leterrier won't be back.

That's the news on Deadline NY, which adds that other characters will also be back (at least the ones who lived):

Greg Berlanti will write the story and the studio is already canvassing the agencies for a writer and director who can whip the movie into shape to shoot before Worthington makes Avatar 2. Leterrier will remain peripherally involved as executive producer.

The remake of the classic 1980s mythology movie has taken in about $390 million globally, and given that it cost about $120 million budget to make, it will wind up one of the year's biggest hits.

Deadline also reports that New Line and Walden Media are putting together the sequel to the 3-D Journey to the Center of the Earth, with Brendan Fraser considering a return to star.
