Director Michael Bay has dropped actress Megan Fox from the upcoming Transformers 3, according to Deadline.com. Officially, Paramount Pictures has not picked up the option to have Fox appear in the summer 2011 release, but sources say it was "ultimately" Bay's choice not to bring the outspoken bombshell back to the franchise that made her a star.
This didn't exactly come out of the blue. While promoting her starring horror vehicle Jennifer's Body last September, Fox compared Bay to Hitler in an interview with Wonderland magazine, saying he was a "nightmare to work for." That led to an open letter by three unnamed members of the Transformers crew, slamming Fox's behavior on the set and calling her "dumb as a rock." Bay later wrote on his website, "I don't condone the crew letter to Megan. And I don't condone Megan's outlandish quotes. But her crazy quips are part of her crazy charm. The fact of the matter is I still love working with her, and I know we still get along. I even expect more crazy quotes from her on Transformers 3."
Fox then issued her own statement, saying, "I have spoken with the parties involved privately. I am very fortunate to be involved in this amazing franchise and look forward to Transformers 3." That seemed to quiet things down for a while, and when Bay annnounced the July 1, 2011, release date for Transformers 3, he added this: "P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your doctor to determine if this is right for you."
Okay, a little joke, right? Well, it looks like Bay has really had the last laugh, because he and Ehren Kruger have written a new love interest for star Shia LeBeouf into the third movie's script and Bay will begin casting the role soon. So what was the last straw? Well, in a recent interview with Allure magazine, Fox couldn't resist tweaking her director again, this time about his insistence that she get tanned for the movie. The actress told the magazine, "I had been tanning a lot so that Michael would be happy with my skin tone. Every spare moment of sun that was outside, I had to be in it. It's not going to happen again because of the damage and the possible skin cancer."
Bay will undoubtedly find a new sexy lead to provide eye candy in his third Transformers flick, and both he and the franchise should be just fine. As for Fox, she's got bigger questions: Jennifer's Body tanked despite a huge amount of hype, and her next big movie, next month's adaptation of Jonah Hex, has had bad word of mouth for months. It's no secret that Fox's career has been based more on her physical attributes than her acting ability, and now she's lost the one proven cash cow on her short resume.
Do you think she deserved to be fired, and will she be able to bounce back? And will Transformers 3 be the same without her?
