Robert Downey Jr. is already a legit box-office god thanks to his starring role as Iron Man, but now the superstar is trying to bring a few friends along for the next installment.
It’s being reported by Radar Online that Downey is lobbying Marvel to cast his pals Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster in a future film -- preferably a future Avengers movie, to give them the box-office success he’s enjoyed. An unnamed source claims:
“It’s been a longtime dream of Robert’s to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he’s achieved in recent years.”
Looking at the odds, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for Jodie Foster to pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially since she’s more than proven her sci-fi chops in the recent hit Elysium.
But Gibson? That’s apparently a very different story. Though he was a megastar back in the day, Gibson’s stock has fallen off a cliff ever since he became one of the most public anti-Semites on the planet.
Apparently Downey actually pushed for Gibson to play the U.S. president in Iron Man 3 — a role that eventually went to William Sadler — but he still isn’t giving up. Good luck?
What do you think? Would Foster and Gibson be a good fit in a Marvel movie? Who would you cast them as?
