Netflix has debuted the first teaser trailer for Bright, their new original movie set in an alternate, present-day universe where "humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time."
So far, so interesting. Don't you think?
What's even more interesting is that director David Ayer's latest project (following last summer's Suicide Squad) stars Will Smith (with a sword!) as LAPD officer Scott Ward and Joel Edgerton as his partner, Jakoby, the first orc ever to join the force. In the movie, the dynamic law-enforcing duo is on the hunt for a wand, which is said to be the most powerful (and totally illegal) weapon one can have in this alternate reality world.
Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Margaret Cho and Ike Barinholtz also star in the movie penned by Max Landis (Chronicle). Here's an extended synopsis (via Coming Soon):
Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.
Bright is expected to stream globally in December on Netflix. Take a look at near 40-second teaser and let us know what you think.
