We can all agree that post-Men in Black 3, After Earth wasn't the best move for Will Smith. The actor usually thrives in the sci-fi genre, but that film completely missed the mark. Perhaps he'll have better luck with his latest project, Brilliance. The film will be produced by Legendary Pictures and Universal and is expected to be another tentpole.

According to The Wrap, "Brillance is set in a world where some people are born with heightened cognitive abilities and are called 'brilliants,' the story follows a federal agent whose extraordinary gift makes him exceptional at hunting terrorists." The film is based on the novel of the same name by Marcus Sakey, which was released last summer.

Brillance is the first entry in a planned book trilogy. If the film is commercially successful, we wouldn't be shocked if the studios opted to do the same. We'd love to see Smith back on top of the box office. Next up, the actor will appear in the Warner Bros.' con artist film Focus opposite Margo Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street). That film hits theaters Feb. 27, 2015.
