WIRE Buzz: Annabelle haunts WB offices; Bautista tried for Bane; and Luke Evans' Gaston return
Even evil entities need to pass the time in quarantine.
In a new video posted by Warner Bros. Pictures, horror fans got a glimpse at a life in the day of the iconic (and creepy) Annabelle doll, which has been haunting the WB/New Line Cinema offices amid the coronavirus pandemic. With no one around, she's been enjoying her own films in the studio screening room, soaking up the California sun with a glass full of champagne, using the copier to print images of her face, communing with the netherworld via a ouija board, and driving around in the obligatory Hollywood backlot golf cart. Despite harboring a malevolent spirit intent on harming humans, Annabelle was courteous enough to don a face mask before heading outside.

The "To be continued..." cliffhanger at the very end suggests that there is more fun content to come. What will that rambunctious movie doll get up to next?
Annabelle Comes Home is currently available to stream on HBO Max. You can also rent or purchase the film, which marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Gary Dauberman, on Digital and Blu-Ray.
We all know Dave Bautista for his beloved performance as the literal-minded Drax in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films, but the wrestler-turned-actor apparently nearly made the jump over to the DCEU. Responding to a fan theory on Twitter, Bautista confirmed that he tried to land the role of Bane in director Matt Reeves' The Batman, but his attempt was ultimately in vain.
"Unfortunately it’s not [true]," he wrote. "Tried my best."
The jacked-up, mask-wearing villain was last played on the big screen by Tom Hardy for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. While Bautista wasn't able to land the role for a new interpretation of the hulking character, his tweet does suggest that Bane will still make an appearance in the upcoming Caped Crusader flick.
Written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman is scheduled to swoop into theaters Oct. 1, 2021. Originally slated to open next summer, the U.K.-based project was forced to shut production down in March as the pandemic swept across the globe. It is unclear when filming is set to start back up.
Gunn is dabbling in the DC Universe with The Suicide Squad, which arrives in theaters August 6, 2021. The soft reboot of David Ayer's 2016 team-up movie wrapped prior to the health crisis.
Are you looking forward to the Beauty and the Beast spinoff series on Disney+ featuring Gaston (Luke Evans) and LeFou (Josh Gad)? Recently chatting with Collider, Evans teased the psychological depth of a character that Disney fans really only know as a one-note villain.
"Well, no human being is one layer," he said. "There are many, many chapters to our lives, and they all inform the character and who we are. There’s a lot of intrigue, as to who these people might have been, and how they became who they were. But you’ll just have to wait to see. I’m not going to spoil it for you."
In April, showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis confirmed to SYFY WIRE that the pilot was being written. A few days later, we learned that original Beauty and the Beast composer Alan Menken had boarded the project.
"We’re just so honored to have him on board, writing the music, which is extraordinary, in itself," Evans also told Collider. "We feel so lucky to have this talented group of people creating a story about two much loved and much hated characters, but that’s the excitement. There are a lot of questions about, where we will start? What we will tell? Who are these people? When you visit them, where will they be? So, it’s going to be a really fun experience. Me and Josh are literally vibrating with excitement to shoot it."
Earlier this month, Evans revealed that the plan to is to start shooting the show next year. No premiere date has been announced yet.
