With Wonder Woman currently making a killing in movie theaters across the globe, director Petty Jenkins has already set her sights on the inevitable and totally deserved (because the DCEU movie is pretty awesome: go see it!) sequel. We learned a short while ago that while a script had yet to be written, the sequel was already in the works.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jenkins has opened up about where the second Wonder Woman will be set. Gone will be Themyscira and the European theater (London, Belgium) of the First World War that served as backdrop for the Amazonian princess’ origin story. Keeping mum on story details, Jenkins at least revealed Wonder Woman 2 will take place in the good old U.S. of A, with rumors that it will be set in the present time. Here’s the excerpt:
“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”
Warner Bros. is also being super-stingy as to its future plans for the Wonder Woman movie franchise, but with the superhero film garnering critical and fan praises, the studio will surely be quick to hand over the Lasso of Truth to Jenkins and Gal Gadot, who'll be returning as Diana of Themyscira, both of them being under contract .
Here’s what Jenkins (who reveals she formed a tight bond with Gadot and the movie crew during filming) says about returning:
“I’m not a big obligation person when it comes to art. You want to do a movie like this because you believe in it,” she said. “Then I had this revelation in the middle of the night: this is your dream cast, you’ve created a character that you love and you can say anything you want in the world right now. Then I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”
Amen to that. Were you wowed by Wonder Woman’s first ever big-screen appearance over the weekend? And what say you about Wonder Woman 2 coming to America?
