Just a few days after Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins’ historic deal with Warner Bros. to co-write, direct and produce the Amazonian movie sequel (to the tune of $7-9 million and a portion of the profits), now comes word that the writing team of Jenkins and Geoff Johns will expand to include an Expendables co-writer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dave Callaham has come on board Wonder Woman 2 to co-write the script alongside Patty Jenkins (who brought Callaham into the fold after working with him on Jackpot) and Geoff Johns, who’ve already been working on a screenplay treatment for a couple of months now.
In case you're wondering, Callaham does have some geek cred. The man wrote Doom back in 2005 (eek) and has a story credit for 2014’s Godzilla. He’s also set to hammer away at the screenplays for Zombieland 2 and the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, as well as working on Universal Pictures’ The Wolfman.
While the storyline for Wonder Woman 2 is being kept under wraps, Jenkins previously said that the movie could take place in America during the Cold War, with rumors that Diana (Gal Gadot) will be taking on USSR agents. Jenkins also hinted at the possibility that we may finally get to see Wonder Woman’s signature invisible jet, which should prove wondrously interesting to see on the big screen.
What do you think of Dave Callaham joining Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns to co-write Wonder Woman 2? The movie is slated for a Dec. 13, 2019 premiere.
