Over ten years ago, future Batgirl helmer (and Avengers director) Joss Whedon penned a Wonder Woman screenplay that sadly remained unproduced after toiling on it forever. With director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman finally hitting the big screen next month, it’s with perfect timing that Whedon’s take on Diana of Themyscira has been leaked online.

Instead of taking Wonder Woman to her World War II roots (the upcoming movie has shaken things up a bit by setting the comic book movie during the events of the First World War — which I'm totally on board with), the 116-page script reveals that Whedon’s take on the Amazonian Princess would have taken place in modern times and, yep, it would have featured Diana’s long-time love interest, Steve Trevor.

Also, instead of Ares as the main villain (although he does put in an appearance), Diana would have gone against Strife, the Goddess of Discord. Whedon’s WW movie would have also included an appearance from Dionysus Bacchus, the Greek Roman God of Wine, as well as Diana’s mother, Queen Hippolyta, and a slew of other characters not featured in the Warner Bros. DC Comics movie. Check it out here, and let us know what you think!

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, David Thewlis as Ares, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy (Yess!), Danny Huston, Ewen Bremmer, Doutzen Kroes, Samantha Jo as Euboea, Florence Kasumba as Senator Acantha, Said Taghmaoui, Eleanor Matsuura as Epione, and Lisa Loven Kongsli as Menalippe. The movie will open on June 2.
