Last evening’s San Diego Comic-Con panel of FX’s Legion was rich in developments, including the revelation that showrunner Noah Hawley was prepping a Doctor Doom movie for Fox (Yassss!) and that they’ve added a Wonder Woman star in the role of the Shadow King.
Saïd Taghmaoui (pictured on the left above) has come on board the Marvel and Fox TV series’ upcoming sophomore season as Amahl Farouk, aka the Shadow King, whom viewers have previously met in the form of the Devil With the Yellow Eyes, the World’s Angriest Boy in the World, and fan favorite Lenny, played by Aubrey Plaza. This one is now on a road trip with Oliver Bird (Jemaine Clement) after finally leaving David Haller's (Dan Stevens) mind in the Season 1 finale.
Created by Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne, Amahl Farouk made his comic book debut in the pages of Uncanny X-Men #117 in 1979, and was one of the Shadow King's main human manifestations. One of the oldest and most powerful psychic mutants ever to live, the Shadow King was the first true evil mutant Charles Xavier ever encountered.
FX described the character as a “villain with a thousand faces. In his real form, he is always nattily dressed. Dapper with a thin Clark Gable style mustache. His eyes forever hidden behind a pair of ornate sunglasses. He was hip long before there was such an idea. He can seductively hold court on any topic and in any language, but his true passion lies in the singular timeless notion of power and amassing as much of it as possible…It is rumored he is the spawn of the first nightmare, which is fitting because fear is his weapon of choice in exposing weakness in others. To Farouk, fear equals weakness and he fears nothing. Which is why he takes such delight in seeing others squirm — a reminder he is more powerful than them.”
Fargo’s Noah Hawley is back in the showrunner (and executive producer) seat for Season 2 — which will feature 10 episodes (up two from last season) — alongside the X-Men movie team of Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg, and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron.
What do you think of Saïd Taghmaoui joining Season 2 of FX’s Legion as the Shadow King?
