Panelsits at WonderCon's Ready Player One panel recalled on-set visits from George Lucas and Tom Cruise while filming the soon-to-be released adaptation of Ernest Cline's sci-fi adventure novel.
According to reports from attendees, screenwriter and panelist Zak Penn said that Lucas showed up on set and gave Ready Player One director and best frenemy Steven Spielberg a hard time about shooting on digital. According to Deadline, Penn added: "Watching the two of them was like watching two 10-year-old friends arguing.” (Though, wait. Are we crazy, or did Lucas film Episodes II and III of the Star Wars prequels on digital? If so, why are you busting Steve's chops, George?)
Panelist and actress Olivia Cooke told attendees that Minority Report actor Tom Cruise also visited the set and she tried to hide because she was embarrassed to be seen in her mocap suit. Adding to her embarassment, Cooke recalled that she “bowed like a servant” when she was introduced to Cruise.
The panelists, which also included Cline and actors Tye Sheridan, Lena Waithe, Ben Mendelsohn, Philip Zhao, and Win Morisaki, also discussed their favorite Spielberg films and what it was like working with the director (apparently they loved it).
Ready Player One hits theatres on March 29.
