Comic book writer Scott Snyder appeared at DC's Publishers Panel today at Wonder Con in Anaheim, California to speak about a number of exciting new Justice League books that will be arriving in the near future; they will be spinning out of the Metal title. Before he went all out on spoiler talk, Snyder started off by thanking the fans in the audience, who have stuck with the stories since Rebirth, which have really been "amping up" over the last year with Metal. "What you showed us is that you want big, epic superhero storytelling that takes these characters you love, honors the past, but takes them somewhere new."
Getting down to brass tacks, Snyder revealed that No Justice will lead to New Justice, and a new Justice League book he admitted he's been waiting to write since he was a little kid. He described it as a sort of "soap opera" and his "love letter to superhero comics." On the first page alone, you have DC One Million, Kamandi, The Quintessence, and the original Monitor facing a threat to the Omniverse. And since he's using such big heroes of this universe, he counteracts them with the biggest villains in the form of the all new Legion of Doom. Although he didn't give up the bad guy roster, he did say that the Legion contains every villain you would want "and then some."
In additon to the already announced main title, there will be two additional Justice League books: Justice League Dark and Justie League Odyssey, both of which are scheduled to drop in June. Dark's creative team consists of writer James Tynion IV and artists Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez and Brad Anderson. Zatana, Swamp-Thing, Dr. Fate, Detective Chimp, and Man-Bat make up this team, fighting a giant magical war and led by none other than Wonder Woman.
One new thing we did learn about the new Justice League is that they will be headquartered in the classic Hall of Justice. Within this new Hall of Justice are portals that lead to the bases of other teams, which helps create a better connected universe. Each book has its own adventures and missions, but there will be overlap between books where Justice League Dark meets and communicates with the regular Justice League.
A suprising reveal for Justice League Odyssey is that their greatest enemy, Darkseid, will be a member of the team; Snyder described him as the team's "Hannibal Lecter" as they basically strike a deal with the devil in order to defeat a greater evil. The writer for this series is Josh Williamson and its artist is Stjepan Sejic. Snyder said that if Dark leans heavily on magic and the supernatural, Odyssey puts that emphasis on outer space. At the end of Metal, new "frontiers" in space open up for this crew of Cyborg, Starfire, Jessica Cruz (Green Lantern), and Azrael from Batman.
