I've written before about how pleasant a surprise Rise of the Planet of the Apes was. It may well have been the best possible film we could've hoped for to jump-start the franchise again, and then Dawn of the Planet of the Apes came along and topped it with amazing visuals and a story that set the stage for an all-out war between apes and man.
We know what kind of world is coming at the end of all of this, and War of the Planet of the Apes is the next big step in getting us there. We know that the film will continue the story of Caesar (played in motion capture by Andy Serkis) and his ape tribe after the clash at the end of Dawn, but until today we didn't know who or what Caesar and company would be taking on. Now it seems we do.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Woody Harrelson is set to co-star in the film as "the Colonel," a villain who'll take on the apes. Harrelson's had a big couple of years thanks to the blockbuster success of The Hunger Games franchise and his role in the first season of True Detective in 2014, for which he was nominated for both Emmy and Golden Globe awards. Now he's adding another franchise to his schedule.
War of the Planet of the Apes arrives in 2017. What do you think of Harrelson's casting?
