The folks at AMC are doubling down on comic adaptations, and now we have a jaw-dropping new look at the long-gestating TV version of Preacher.

The network has unveiled a new clip focused on the character of Tulip O’Hare, played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Ruth Negga, as she slugs it out in the backseat of a car barreling through a corn field. It’s a tense clip, no doubt, with violent action that would be right at home on network sibling The Walking Dead. From a close-quarters shootout to some gruesome biting, this is certainly not a series for the squeamish.

The character of Tulip is the ex-girlfriend of Dominic Cooper’s Jesse Custer, and in a recent interview with The Guardian, Negga teased that her character is certainly a worthy foil for the namesake antihero:

“She’s sort of unforgettable. She has no morals. She’s an agitator assassin, a gun for hire, and she’s written the way male characters are usually written. Conscience is something she buries; obviously she’s damaged. It’s really intriguing. I’d never read a part for a woman like that. They usually have a tender heart or a soft spot for some guy. Not Tulip. You read certain scenes in the script and think: are we allowed to do this? It’s great playing someone unsympathetic and not having to justify her actions.”

Preacher is set to premiere May 22 on AMC.
