Superman fans seeing green over world’s largest emerald that looks just like Kryptonite

Look out Superman! Your ultimate weakness has been unearthed in Zambia. Well, sort of. Well, actually not at all.

But CNN reports that one of the world's largest producers of green stones has discovered a 5,655-carat emerald crystal at its mines, and of course, DC fans were quick to point out on Twitter its likeness to Kryptonite.

Gemfields, the mining company that found the monstrous stone, said in a statement earlier this week that it weighs more than 1.1 kg (almost 2.5 lbs) and came from their mines in Kagem.

The discovery prompted a hearty reaction from fans and protectors of the Man of Steel, speculating that it could well be the crystalline material that emits a peculiar radiation that can kill Supes, but is pretty harmless to us mere mortals.

Die-hard fans will already know that the mineral fragment from Superman's home planet of Krypton is most often depicted in comics/films/television shows in its original green form. But there have been some other iterations over the years, which you can find more about here

What do you think of this super discovery? Give us your best theories and funny takes in the comments section below.
