‘Worst toys’ list includes Spidey’s Spider-Drone, Wonder Woman’s (plastic) battle sword

It’s no indictment of how fun they might actually be — and quite honestly, now they’ve got us curious — but an advocacy group has just released its list of this year’s most unsafe toys for kids, and Spider-Man and Wonder Woman both have items that make, ahem, the…cut.

World Against Toys Causing Harm, or W.A.T.C.H., flagged both the “Wonder Woman Battle Sword” and the “Spider-man Spider-Drone” on its list of the Top 10 toys it advises parents against buying this holiday shopping season.

W.A.T.C.H. published its annually-updated list today, highlighting both superheroes’ toys in the accompanying press release:

“World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc. (W.A.T.C.H.) today revealed its nominees for the ’10 Worst Toys of 2017’ and demonstrated why the ‘Wonder Woman Battle Sword,’ ‘Spiderman Spider-Drone,’ and other potentially hazardous toys should not be in the hands of children,” the release states.

What makes these toys so potentially dangerous in W.A.T.C.H.’s watchful eyes?

Well, in Wonder Woman’s case, “[y]oung children are encouraged to bear arms, like a popular comic book and movie character, to engage in ‘[f]ighting alongside men in a war to end all wars,’” the group opines. Plus, “[t]he rigid plastic sword blade has the potential to cause facial or other impact injuries.”

Spider-Man’s drone, says W.A.T.C.H., offers up the “potential for eye and body impact injuries,” and presents a specific danger to kids because the $89.99 device “is sold for use by children.”

Hey, we’re not here to dispense parenting advice, so just consider this a PSA that somebody out there thinks these and other toys (like a particular type of fidget spinner) could, under certain circumstances, hurt somebody.

Then again, we’ve incurred some pretty nasty bumps and bruises just running around the yard pretending to be Spider-Man — with nary a toy in sight.

If picking the right superhero toy is on your list of concerns this season, why not just go all in on quality time and binge-watch some Spider-Man flicks with your little ones? And hey, while we’re on it, Justice League’s opening this weekend. Wonder Woman’s all over that, right?

How does tickets for the whole family sound?
