Wynonna Earp cast share how their characters face their demons in this new behind-the-scenes clip

By Vanessa Armstrong

Season 4’s penultimate episode of Wynonna Earp has aired, and a whole lot of characters went through a whole lot of changes. The good news is that most of these changes ended up for the best, although a lot of bad happened before the residents of Purgatory ended up in a better place.

Now, a new behind-the-scenes clip from the episode has arrived featuring bonus footage with the cast’s thoughts on what went down this episode — and fans can view it for free exclusively on the SYFY app! To watch it, just head to the Wynonna Earp section of the app and find it under “Wynonna Earp: Inside The Episode.”

Wynonna Earp

**Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wynonna Earp Season 4, Episode 11, “Better Dig Two.”**

In the clip, Martina Ortiz-Luis (Rachel) weighs in on the deal she makes with Cleo. Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna) agrees that characters often have to choose between two bad options (or "s*** sandwiches," as she colorfully uses in her explanation), which for Wynonna means freeing her enemy, Cleo (Savannah Basley), rather than Doc (Tim Rozon) or Jeremy (Varun Saranga).

Scrofano and Ortiz-Luis are family now, however, even though Wynonna was tough to her in the previous episode. Ortiz-Luis talks specifically about when Wynonna rescues Rachel this episode, saying that Wynonna’s line, “I got you,” brought her to tears when she first read it.

Saranga also shares his thoughts on Jeremy and Doc's time in jail, where a bleeding Mercedes causes Doc’s fangs to come out. Saranga calls it Doc’s redemptive moment — would the vampire give in to the bloodlust and kill his friend? Rozon explains that his character’s ability to think has gone out the window from lack of feeding, and his only drive now is to drink whomever he can. Doc, however, with Jeremy’s support doesn’t feed (though he does ultimately turn Mercedes into a vampire).

Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly) also talked about playing a dark angel, including what it was like smoking herbal cigarettes rather than regular ones (Rozon also shared that, as Doc, he uses both). She went on, however, to sound off about Waverly having an intention to serve the greater good and feeling that what she’s doing is the only way to achieve it.

Provost-Chalkley also shared that she thinks there are flickers of the old Waverly coming through when she's the dark angel. But even though Dark Waverly is doing bad things, Provost-Chalkley and Katherine Barrell (Nicole) agree that she’s not evil. Barrell also talks about how Nicole becomes a guardian of sorts, and while she doesn’t know what that will mean for Nicole in the future, she does think her character will remain very human, and that Nicole, at her core, is a protector.

As for next week, Provost-Chalkley promises fans are in for a treat, hinting that WayHaught will (finally!) be getting married.

New episodes of Wynonna Earp premiere Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/ 9 CT on SYFY.
