We've finally gotten our first full look at Quicksilver from X-Men: Days of Future Past in action ... and it's not exactly what we expected.
In what may go down in history as one of the strangest marketing moves of all time, 20th Century Fox has debuted Evan Peters as Quicksilver to the world in a fast food commercial -- a spot for Carl Jr.'s bacon, egg and cheese biscuit.
In the ad, we see Quicksilver use his speed powers not to save the planet or do anything vaguely superheroic, but to guzzle down his sandwich along with some orange juice. Yes, this is the first chance that many of us will get to see one of Marvel's most famous mutant characters as he'll look on the big screen -- hawking bad food.
The ad is apparently part of a series that Fox is doing with the fast food giant: a behind-the-scenes clip reveals that one starring Colossus (Daniel Cudmore) is next. The first one starred Mystique -- except that there was no way in hell that the studio was convincing Jennifer Lawrence to appear in it, so a stand-in was used instead. Presumably the lesser-known actors in the cast don't have that same veto power.
Look, we have high hopes for X-Men: Days of Future Past, but something like this smacks of such desperate, tone-deaf marketing that we can't help but feel let down. Check out the spot and the backstage clip below and let us know what you think.
Somewhere Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige are having a good laugh.
X-Men: Days of Future Past arrives on May 23.
