A few months ago (back in September, actually) it was revealed that Xander Berkeley had joined the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead for the second half of Season 6 in a mysterious role.

Now we know which character the Salem and 24 actor will play.

According to TV Line, Berkeley will play the role of Gregory, the Hilltop Colony’s leader. In the pages of Robert Kirkman’s comics, the character is a bit of a bad guy (although he doesn't appear to be at first) who is a treacherous, lecherous coward (not very endearing qualities, to put it mildly) who ultimately betrays Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

He will ultimately run afoul of another Hilltop character we’ll get to meet when the zombie drama series returns in mid-February -- fan favorite (and the coolest character in the comics) Paul “Jesus” Monroe (Tom Payne) -- when Gregory poisons Open eyeClose eye Show Spoiler Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

I expect Gregory will play the role of the antagonist — along with the Saviors — until Negan himself finally arrives on the scene to take his crown as the series Big Bad in the Season 6 finale.

What do you think of Xander Berkeley playing the role of Gregory on The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead returns on AMC Feb. 14.
