While we wait around to see exactly what will happen with that proposed Xena TV reboot, Dynamite Comics is gearing up to give fans the continuation they always wanted.

The new comic series Xena: Warrior Princess is set to launch later this year, with Genevieve Valentine (Catwoman) on writing duties and Ariel Medel providing the artwork. As for the plot, it will apparently “follow Xena and Gabrielle 25 years after the events of the show’s 'Twilight of the Gods' arc, with both heroes returning to the world after a long absence only to discover that the Roman Empire is rising in power. Caesar is preparing to march across the land in a bid to expand the Empire.”

The first artwork from the series has debuted at io9, and Medel’s style seems to be an excellent fit for the story Valentine is looking to tell. Sure, we might be getting a new cast and direction with the TV project, but classic Xena looks to be alive and well on the page here.
