What good is a beach if you can't bring your geekery with you?
Every spring since 2006, some of the most gifted sand sculptors in the world have gathered at the seaside resort community of Weston-super-Mare in southwest England for the annual Weston Sand Sculpture Festival. This year, more than 20 of the world's top sculptors crafted detailed works of sand art to celebrate the festival's 2013 theme, Hollywood, and it's no surprise that many of them went with sculptures that pay tribute to genre movies.
From Batman punching the Hulk to E.T. literally phoning home, here are some highlights from this year's festival. And if you happen to be in southwest England this summer, head over to Weston-super-Mare and check the work out. The plan is to keep the sculptures up until September.
