The hottest Star Wars toy of the year just got a whole lot cooler.
Sphero’s remote control BB-8 is arguably one of the coolest Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys on the market, though the smartphone app remote control wasn’t always the smoothest input device for the mini-droid. Now you can use the Force. Well, pretty much.
Dubbed the Force Band, the wearable wrist device allows you to control BB-8 with nothing more than your hand gestures. Not surprisingly, those gestures resemble a Force push. The Force Band was demoed at the CES expo and is set to hit shelves soon in a bundled set with BB-8. But if you’ve already purchased your own little adorable robot, they’ll also be selling the band as an add-on. So, yeah, you’ll have to spend more money — but this gimmick might just be worth it.
Sadly, the device is only in prototype form at the moment, and Sphero doesn’t expect it to ship until the fall (there’s also no price info as of yet), but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
