Thank goodness for stupid movie characters. Without them, they wouldn't do the ridiculous things that we love in movies, like going to investigate that creepy sound, or moving into a notoriously haunted house.

Speaking of notoriously haunted houses, there is a new Amityville movie on the way. Titled Amityville: The Awakening, the latest chapter in the Amityville saga follows "Belle and her family after they move into their new home, but when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house, Belle begins to suspect her mother isn’t telling her everything. She soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house where between illusion and reality lies evil."

This new Amityville film has all the cred to renew the stagnant Amityville franchise. Written and directed by Franck Khalfoun, who did the fantastic 2012 remake of Maniac and produced by horror super-producer Jason Blum (Insidious, The Purge), the film stars Bella Thorne (Scream TV series), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time), and Cameron Monaghan (Gotham).

However, the big news is that Amityville: The Awakening will stream for free on Google Play from October 12 through November 8 (sorry international folks - this is just for U.S. and Canadian residents). It will hit select theaters October 28.
