Young actor backs off his Spider-Man claims. Did he lie?

Logan Lerman, the young star of Percy Jackson & The Olympians, created a buzz last week by telling Access Hollywood that he was up for the role of Peter Parker in the proposed reboot of Spider-Man.

But in an exclusive interview with SCI FI Wire, he backed off of that, saying he was simply interested in the part.

"I mean, the truth is that was kind of exaggerated," Lerman said in a phone interview Tuesday. "I'm just interested in it. Honestly, all I can say about that is it's a role that any young actor out there is dying to play. I'm just hoping to be considered for it."

Lerman had suggested to Access that he'd talked with the studio, which could have meant he'd been privy to the new script by Jamie Vanderbilt, or at least actors' "sides," scenes used for auditions. "I really can't talk about it," Lerman said. "Honestly, I'd rather just not talk about it. It's something that gets so twisted around; I'd rather just keep it about Percy."

Perhaps sensitive to the fallout from his Billy Bush interview, Lerman didn't want to fuel the fire any further. "Yeah, and words get twisted around, people draw their conclusions," he said. "I'd rather just keep it about Percy."

Do you think this young kid is a worthy successor to play Spidey?
