It's no secret that I regard Dark Horse and Boom! Studios' Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes as one of the best mini-series of last year. Now the final issue is about to slam newsstands and comic shops, wrapping up this engaging tale of simian survival.
Written by David Walker and Tim Seeley, with absorbing art by Fernando Dagnino and superb coloring from Sandra Molina, the mashup tosses the hairy gang from Planet of the Apes back in time to equatorial Africa of the early 20th century and unites Tarzan with the revolutionary intelligent ape, Caesar, as childhood friends, combatants and comrades. It truly is a great achievement blending these two legendary franchises together, and the storytelling has remained tight throughout the successful limited run.
Now is the time to catch up on the back issues and be on board when Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes #5 lands on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
Here's the official synopsis:
God told men they would rule over all the creatures of the earth. The Lawgiver told the apes to beware the beast man, and for good reason. Now as the worst aspects of both species rise up in hatred and fear, two brothers — one man, one ape — hold in their hands the future of life on Earth as they try to change the destiny of the Planet of the Apes.
