How many more different ways can zombies terrorize the living? The Walking Dead has gone on so long that even its spin-off series has been around forever and every other take on the genre tries to spin it in some slightly inventive direction by inevitably making the undead relatable. But not to worry — an upcoming Korean horror film will give you a take on zombies that might not be original, but will certainly be entertaining.
From the same studio responsible for the killer “zombies on a train” movie Train to Busan, Rampant puts Jang Dong-Gun, Hyun Bin, Kim Eui-sung, Jo Woo-jin, Kim Ju-hyuk, and Jo Dal-hwan sometime during the lengthy Joseon dynasty, as a returning prince finds his kingdom afflicted by encroaching Night Demons that those around them are transforming into. And now we have a trailer.
Director Kim Sung-hoon’s take on the pseudo-zombies reunites him with Hyun Bin, whom he directed in police thriller Confidential Assignment. The demons leap and chomp with the delicious mix of Korean fantasy filmmaking and gritty zombie conventions fans are used to, giving the horror film a lively injection of action.
Rampant hits select U.S. theaters on Nov. 2.
