What do you get when you take pretty much every subgenre of science fiction and toss it into a horror-tinged blender? Freaks of Nature, pretty much.
The film, which actually shot back in 2013 and has been bouncing around post-production release hell ever since, is set in a small town where zombies, vampires and humans (kinda) co-exist. But everything changes when an alien ship arrives above the town. All hell breaks loose at that point, as it becomes legit carnage with humans vs. zombies vs. vampires. As the insanity erupts, it’s up to three teenagers to try and get everything back to some semblance of “normal.”
The film stars Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Josh Fadem and Joan Cusack. It also includes some nice cameos from Patton Oswalt, Vanessa Hudgens and Denis Leary. The irreverent tone seems like a good fit for the premise, and if they land some of the jokes, this could be a nice throwback horror-comedy romp just in time for Halloween.

The film was originally supposed to be released early this year, but now Sony plans to open it theatrically in limited release on Oct. 30. No word on when a wider release (or VOD rollout) might occur.
