Casting News: Van Helsing Finds Its Star

Coming to Syfy later this year, Van Helsing centers on Vanessa Helsing (get it?), the heir to the vampire killing Helsing empire who finds herself awakening from a five year coma to a world overrun by vampires. 

Kelly Overton has been cast as the lead, the aforementioned Vanessa. You may recognize her from her hair turn in True Blood (she played Rikki, the alpha werewolf that Alcide was involved with). Also joining the cast are Jonathan Scarfe (Hell on Wheels), Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels), Paul Johansson (Mad Men and Dan Scott, the jerk dad from One Tree Hill), David Cubitt (Ray Donovan) and Tim Guinee (Homeland).

Van Helsing's names behind the camera aren't too shabby. Neil LaBute (yes, that Neil LaBute. The prolific playwright/filmmaker) will be serving as the showrunner and writer.
