The team is low on supplies and Murphy is hallucinating pretty badly about the thing that zombies really love: Brains. Delicious brains! When he and Doc go off to look for something to eat, it's his lust for brains that actually gets him stuck in a pit.
As the team searches for Murphy and hopes their last words aren't "Murphy, Where Are You?!" …
… Murphy is in the pit with a zombie that's eating the brains out of someone’s head. They play patty cake (or something thereof) until Murphy's captor comes for him.
Murphy's captor turns out to be a fairly insane nerd type named Dean, aka 'The Collector.' He's been doing some gross research on zombie brains and is rather fascinated by Murphy's ability to speak ... which makes him suspect that Murphy is THE Murphy.
Dean puts a shock collar on Murphy so he can't escape ... and gives his new "guest" a tour of his Zombie Museum, where he keeps a lot of zombie memorabilia.
And now a quick recap of zombie storytelling throughout cinematic history, from White Zombie with Bela Lugosi (1932) to George Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968) to Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead (2004). Captor and captive mutually agree that zombie stories that are both scary and funny are the best kind of zombie stories. (Wink!)
As Murphy gets the chance to take a real shower with real hot water, the team searches the sparsely populated town for their lost quary.
After Murphy tries to escape, Dean ties him to a chair on his makeshift public access set and commences with an exclusive interview with The Murphy. Dean collects DNA, takes plasma and bone marrow samples and keeps shocking his guest with the collar.
Murphy tastes brains for the first time ... and it's quite something. Some new kind of synapses go off in his head and he actually gets a little upset when talking about the baby daughter he had to leave behind.
Dean has been collecting various forms of Z's, most of which we've seen before: the radioactive Z's, the phytozombies, the Blasters. He's even got a few celebrity zombies, most notably ...
... George R.R. Martin! Yes, actually him! Dean is keeping him in a room where he just signs copies of his books over and over again.
When Murphy tries to escape again, Dean shows his even crazier side. He brutally electrocutes his guest just as 10K shows up asking if he's seen "a blue guy." 10K sees through Dean's unconvincing performance and sneaks into the zombie museum ... only to fall into the curator's diabolical clutches.
Dean wants to see what happens when Murphy bites a human ... specifically, 10K.
Murphy uses his powers to persuade the captive zombies to sneak up on Dean and eat him alive, after which he passes out and has to be wheeled out of the zombie museum by 10K.
As the team prepares to get back on the road, Murphy makes Roberta promise that she won't abandon him when they get to California.
