Warning: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
Mike Painter is an esteemed child psychologist with a terrifying past that gives him terrible nightmares. When he was a child, his twin brother was killed, along with four other kids, in the Iron Hill Murders. Someone page Dr. Freud.
206265
He travels home to Iron Hill, and surprises his estranged mother. Are they drinking beer for breakfast?
206266
Mike meets with Iron Hill Sheriff Gary to see if his old buddy can do him a solid: slipping him the cold case files of the Iron Hill Murders circa 1988.
206267
Gary will grant Mike's wish, on the condition he come to dinner that night and casually psychoanalyze he and his wife Jessica's kids. Sure, that sounds ethical.
206268
Going to the bathroom, Mike runs into Gary's daughter Katie practically glued to the TV screen. When Mike asks her what she's watching, she tells him, "Candle Cove."
206269
Mike gets really drunk after learning Candle Cove is back on the air — the last time it played was during the Iron Hill Murders. A bellyful of booze, Mike stumbles homeward.
206270
When Mike and his twin brother were kids, and both still alive, they used to watch Candle Cove on the tube. It's some creepy sh*t.
206271
The next morning, Jessica pops into Katie's room to wake her up and finds her missing.
206272
While conducting a formal search for Katie, Jessica and the police are beginning to grow suspicious of Mike and his interest in "Candle Cove." Also because he didn't get home until 3AM the night before. He should have used Google maps.
206273
Mike breaks away from the search party and asks Dave, Katie's brother, if she said where she was going. Dave tells him…to the Crow's Nest. This is getting stranger and stranger.
206274
Armed with a blade, Mike ventures to where he remembers the Crow's Nest to be. On his way there, he runs into this guy, who resembles one of the characters from the Candle Cove show.
206276
Mike finally finds Katie, crouched behind a rock, and takes her home. She appears untouched, except for Mike's overly forceful gripping her by the shirt.
206277
Umm...what the hell is this thing, that emerges from hiding after Mike and Katie leave? Looks like a human-size embryo made of teeth.
206278
We get more information on Mike's past. Some time ago, he carved "Mike Come Home" into his arm with a screwdriver, and committed himself to a psych ward, from which he's just been released. We'll see how this plays out.
206279
In a flashback to 1988 we see the Painter brothers watching Candle Cove. And the thing about Candle Cove is...apparently, there was no such thing as Candle Cove. It was all just a bunch of black and white static.
