S#it happens and it especially happens in time travel. In honor of Continuum's Season 4 premiere, tonight at 11/10c, here's a list of film, books and TV shows that handle the bizarre effects of time travel in the most interesting - and weird- ways.

Back to the Future

Marty McFly ended up romancing his own mother, who compared kissing her son-to-be to "kissing … my brother." Uhhhhkay.
Time Travel Verdict: F'ed up and interesting (in a gross way)

Stephen King's 11/22/63

Stopping the assassination of JFK results in an eventual dystopian, nuclear-winter-scarred, crime-ridden landscape that suffers from frequent earthquakes.

The Butterfly Effect

Evan Treborn's (Ashton Kutcher) frequent travels back in time to fix parts of his childhood result in often catastrophic future versions of himself, including one in which he's a quadruple amputee.
Time Travel Verdict: F'ed up

We're all about banishing bad guys away to the land of forgotten people, but it sucks when the well-to-do of society turn on the hired gun, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and planned to have the future version of himself killed. You need a doctorate in physics to follow the time travel mechanics in this one.

Terminator Genisys

This movie made no sense and THAT, friends, is f'ed up.
Time Travel Verdict: Do you even have to ask?

X-Men: Days of Future Past

In 1973 Dr. Trask develops the Sentinels - enormous robotic weapons - to detect and kill mutants. That's f'ed up for mutants and what's more is that the Sentinels evolved in the 21st century into sophisticated killing machines, bringing mutants ever so close to the rim of extinction. So the future X-Men send Wolverine back into the past to make sure the Sentinels are never created.

A time-traveling Temporal Agent must pursue the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time. Spoiler Alert: Because time travel often makes zero sense, it turns out that in the course of traveling through time Ethan Hawke becomes his own mother and gives birth to himself. It's very meta and artistic.
Time Travel Verdict: Frustrating.

12 Monkeys

A wrinkle in the time continuum gave Cole a chance to reunite with his father and the younger version of himself, only to witness his father's murder - a recurring, unexplainable nightmare that "future" Cole kept having but could make no sense of.
Time Travel Verdict: Fodder for Cole's therapy bills but interesting.

Donnie Darko

Donnie travels back to the past and sacrifices himself thus saving his future girlfriend Gretchen. By treating the entire film as Donnie's vision, his Jesus like antics save all paradoxes from occurring.
Time Travel Verdict: Smartly Interesting

Two friends, Abe and Aaron, accidentally invent a time-travel machine and soon use it to try to manipulate the stock market and get rich. Multiple versions of themselves later, and all hell has broken loose. However, points for whoever did the wikipedia page for doing this very handy infographic on how time travel works in the film.
Time Travel Verdict: F'ed up but accessible thanks to the infographic.
