With such strong feelings for Alec, Emily is ready to do whatever it takes for Escher in order to get out of her contract with him. He offers her that out – but only if she brings him the time travel sphere.
Now that it’s been integrated with Lucas’s software, Alec tells Kiera that all he needs is a power source to reactivate its time travel capabilities. For the first time since she arrived in 2012, Kiera actually stands a chance at getting home.
While investigating the thumb drive found on Gardiner's body, Betty and Carlos find pretty convincing evidence of Kiera's participation with Liber8, however contrived. Carlos gives Kiera the heads up, as it’s only a matter of time until the feds are after her.
While hiding out from the Freelancers, Alec learns two stunning revelations at once: Jason, the otherwise kooky homeless man with uncanny tech skills, is actually his father (or is he?) and that Emily is in fact, a contract agent working for Escher.
In an intense firefight, Emily is killed while trying to destroy the time travel slice she located last season. Kiera chooses to protect her only chance at going home instead of protecting Emily; Alec is filled with devastated rage.
