There was even more action, mystery and intrigue in the second episode of The Expanse. Here are our favorite moments from Season 1, Episode 2: "The Big Empty."

  1. Evasive Maneuvers

Alex showed off his formidable piloting skills as he managed to keep the Knight from being completely pummeled by the debris from the 'sploded Canterbury. A brief but intense action sequence … and all the more harrowing when you stop to think about the fact that the Knight's being bombarded by pieces of the crew's friends. Oof.

  2. The Tank

    We All Have Our Duty

We loved the interrogation scene between Chrisjen Avasarala and supposed OPA operative Heikki Sobong, an eerie and menacing sequence as the prisoner calmly answered Chrisjen's questions in an electronic deadpan as he sat almost completely motionless in 'the Tank.' So is this guy OPA or not? And either way, what was he doing carrying stealth technology?

  3. Buddy Breathing

Hooray Shed! The sort-of medic came to the rescue when Alex starting going hypoxic, sharing his own oxygen supply so he didn't have to tolerate one more mumbled verse of "Oh My Darling, Clementine." It ended up being Shed himself who passed out from lack of oxygen, though Holden managed to revive him and they all shared a hearty round of "Boy, THAT sucked!" The crew of the Knight is still five members strong … for now.

  4. Dirtbag School's in Session

    Dirtbag School's in Session

Miller introduces us to the number-one rule on Ceres: Don't Mess With the Water. The gutter punks he disciplines for redirecting one of the station's many feeding pipes seem unfazed by his strong-arm tactics, though the real question is: what happened to the Greigas, the gangsters on whose turf these kids are messing around? Is someone knocking off wiseguys on Ceres?

  5. Prisoners of Mars

The situation just keeps getting more dire for the survivors of the Canterbury. When we last see them in this episode, they're being taken at gunpoint by Martian military. Did Mars destroy the Cant? And if they didn't … well, who the heck did?

Next: Season 1, Episode 3: "Remember the Cant."
