The all-stars assemble, and soon learn that they'll battle one-on-one and try to unseat their very friends each week.
This being the 13th season, the number thirteen, with all its superstitions and history will play a major role. In the first Spotlight Challenge of the season, the artists are tasked with taking a classic fairytale creature (think: Tinkerbell and The Little Mermaid) and then give them the Guillermo Del Toro film treatment.
Being back in the lab is a thrill, thanks in no small part to the massive amounts of new toys they get to play with!
Kevon has a lot of elements to combine to realize his vision of a Captain Hook/Guillermo del Toro mashup.
Graham is a little worried that Sasha will have a better handle on The Little Mermaid than he will… but maybe he knows del Toro better than her, so it's anybody's game.
Kelly's vision for a del Toro Humpty Dumpty is ambitious, but she didn't come here to take a nap.
Mr. Westmore hears Jordan's concept for the gruesome Gingerbread Man, and is taken aback. To surprise this titan of makeup is a win in itself!
Great to see that the tradition of artists helping artists is still alive after 13 seasons! Also great to know that Kelly's gonna have something to put onstage.
Derek's idea for Captain Hook features an actual hook hand.
Stellar actor and frequent del Toro collaborator Doug Jones is this Season's first guest judge!
Yvonne's Tinkerbell died of a broken heart and wound up on bottom looks, while Matt took inspiration from the dark origins of fairies and made a top look.
Jo and Damien had two very different takes on Mr. Toad, and both turned out excellent characters.
Sasha was super excited to have The Little Mermaid as her inspiration, but she couldn't follow through on that vision the way she wanted to.
A bold concept and a ton of work paid off for Kelly, whose Humpty Dumpty lands in top looks!
Two very different Captain Hooks appear, and Kevon learns he has to edit his ideas if he wants to stay out of bottom looks next week.
Mel and Jordan went in wildly different directions - you almost wouldn't know they had the same starting point!
To say Kelly is happy to win would be a major understatement. That her hero, Doug Jones, was a part of that decision makes her first win EVER that much sweeter.
