HIM: Go Inside Marlon Wayans' New Sports Horror Film with Producer Jordan Peele (WATCH)

That's the burning question at the heart of HIM, the upcoming, sports-based horror film produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope). Thanks to the sneak peek featurette below, we now have a better idea of what the film's mysterious title actually means.
What is the meaning behind the title of the new sports-horror film, HIM?
"'HIM' means the GOAT," explains Peele, referring to the famous acronym within the world of sports: Greatest Of All Time. "The one person who deserves respect among all others."
In HIM, the person trying to reach that legendary status is Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers; I Know What You Did Last Summer), a rising quarterback whose career nearly comes to an end after he's assaulted by a crazed fan on the eve of professional football’s annual Scouting Combine. Things begin to look up, however, when Cade receives invitation to train with his personal hero, eight-time Championship QB, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans; Scary Movie), at the isolated compound White occupies with his wife, Elsie (Julia Fox; Uncut Gems).
What begins as a dream come true slowly becomes a waking nightmare as Cade's grueling regimen spirals out of control, teaching him the hard lesson that meeting your heroes isn't always the best idea in the world. "It goes to some really terrifying places," Peele teases in the video below.

"My instinct was to set it up in a way that it feels like we're in Friday Night Lights, or a Gatorade or Nike ad," director Justin Tipping (Kicks), who shares screenplay credit with Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, explains in the latest issue of Empire (on sale here). "We're rooting for the kid who just needs to unlock one thing to take it to the next level. And then we subvert the expectations and let it become Nosferatu or Ex Machina, and let it evolve or devolve — depending on your sensibilities — into something it's not."
In addition to Withers, Wayans, and Fox, the movie also stars Tim Heidecker (Us), and Jim Jefferies (The Jim Jefferies Show), while marking the feature debuts of MMA heavyweight fighter Maurice Greene and hip-hop phenoms Guapdad 4000 and Grammy nominee Tierra Whack.
Peele is a producer alongside Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal M. Watson. David Kern and Kate Oh are executive producers.
When does HIM open in theaters?
HIM hits the big screen Friday, September 19 by way of Universal Pictures. Tickets are not yet on sale.
