The Odyssey: Matt Damon's Epic Journey Begins in Trailer for Christopher Nolan Blockbuster (WATCH)
Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and many more, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey arrives in theaters July 17, 2026.
The sprawling, star-studded journey of Matt Damon's Odysseus officially begins in the debut trailer for director Christopher Nolan's blockbuster interpretation of The Odyssey.
Written, directed, and produced by Nolan (fresh off Academy Award darling Oppenheimer), the film promises to depict Homer's iconic Greek poem like never before. The trailer—which played before showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash opening weekend—shows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, embarking on a harrowing adventure full of peril as he attempts to make his way from the Trojan War.
Anyone familiar with the story may recognize a number of familiar scenes, including a group of Greek soldiers desperately trying to keep quiet inside the Trojan Horse as the people of Troy test it for danger, or Odysseus and his men entering the lair of the Cyclops Polyphemus.
"After years of war, no one could stand between my men and home," Damon's character declares in the footage below. "Not even me."

"As a filmmaker, you're looking for gaps in cinematic culture, things that haven't been done before," Nolan told Empire for the magazine's January 2026 issue. "And what I saw is that all of this great mythological cinematic work that I had grown up with—Ray Harryhausen movies and other things—I'd never seen that done with the sort of weight and credibility that an A-budgetv and a big Hollywood, IMAX production could do."
Added Damon: "I can say, without hyperbole, that it was the best experience of my career. I couldn't believe this came along. Like, what a rush."
Emma Thomas, Nolan's wife and co-founder of the director's Syncopy banner, is also a producer on the project, which made use of all-new camera dubbed the IMAX Keighley Film Camera. Thomas Hayslip serves as executive producer.
