The Ark's Christie Burke Teases Sharon Garnet's Biggest Mystery Yet in Season 3 (Exclusive)

After two seasons of questions, The Ark is finally ready to reveal who Sharon Garnet really is.

Because when she’s not leading humanity’s survivors across deep space, Garnet (Christie Burke) has been trying to solve the mystery of, well, Garnet.  

“I'm very interested in who she is as a person,” Burke revealed in her exclusive interview with SYFY Wire. “In season three, we see a leader go through an identity crisis.”

Indeed, as a genetically engineered human clone, Sharon’s faced one existential crisis after another. 

“When we finished season two, I told [showrunner] Jonathan Glasner, 'We don't know Sharon. Who is Sharon?'” Burke noted. “There's a lot there that we hadn't dived into yet.”

Meanwhile, the Ark One crew has their work cut out for them on the surface of Trappist 1D, the planet meant to become humanity’s new home. 

“That's what's so great about season three is there's so many new storylines,” The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn alum raved. “It's more about everybody's own internal journey. Everyone's favorite character has—for lack of a pun—an arc this season, which makes for a more colorful show.”

But ever the faithful leader, we’ll pick up with Garnet following her decision in the season two finale to remain in space and re-fit Ark One into a search-and-rescue vessel, knowing there’s likely several Arks marooned among the stars. 

And her choice came even after hearing a stranded Ark’s desperate warning echoing across space, “Turn around before it’s too late.” And knowing Garnet, she likely stayed on course. 

“Episode one sets the tone for the rest of the season,” Burke teased. “Expect the unexpected.”

But to no surprise, spending two seasons with mostly the same cast and crew meant that much more on-set hijinks for their third chapter, a benefit to the series on and off screen.

“I can look at Shalini [Peiris] and we can speak to each other without words. Then, we're just laughing,” Burke shared. “We have too much fun, but I do think that having fun makes for a great show.”

Season three of The Ark premieres June 29 on SYFY at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
