A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Casts 3 Major Roles—How They Factor into Season 2
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has cast three major roles for season two, an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s novella The Sworn Sword.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is rounding out its season two ensemble.
One month after Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and Aegon “Egg” Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell) set off for new horizons, fans have learned who they’ll encounter next across Westeros. That’s because three major characters from season two’s source material—George R. R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novella The Sworn Sword—have been cast.
“Every journey needs new companions,” the Game of Thrones spin-off’s official Instagram aptly offered alongside headshots of the incoming trio: Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) and Peter Mullan (Westworld).
With filming underway for the sophomore season, Claffey teased behind-the-scenes antics while sharing the announcement to his Instagram Story. He told Ceesay, “Stop making me laugh on set Babou,” followed by giving a playful word of warning to Mullan: “Same goes for you pete. ”
As for Boynton, whose Lady Rohanne will soon be making Dunk blush on screen, she was bestowed a royal, “Welcome m’lady. ”
Set more than a year after the events of season one (itself a faithful adaptation of The Hedge Knight), season two sees the knight and his squire navigating a massive draught plaguing all of Westeros.
The pair find themselves in the service of Ser Eustace Osgrey (Mullan), who sets them on a path toward Dunk reuniting with Ser Bennis the Brown Shield (Ceesay), a fellow hedge knight he met while serving Ser Arlan of Penntree (Danny Webb).
Dunk also becomes entwined with Rohanne, whose history of husbands meeting unfortunate ends landed her an infamous nickname, the Red Widow.
After Dunk and Egg hinted a trip to Dorne was in their future during the season finale, co-creator and showrunner Ira Parker confirmed Martin’s books will remain their roadmap in the writers’ room.
“They do go to Dorne. How much of that we cover, I’ll leave up to people to tune in for season two,” Parker told Variety in an interview published Feb. 22. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to talk about it yet. For the most part, we’re following the books. So season one was The Hedge Knight. Season two is The Sworn Sword. Hopefully, if we get to season three, it’ll be The Mystery Knight.”
