Birds of Prey and The Flash Writer To Pen DC Studios’ Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Christina Hodson is no stranger to the world of DC, having penned Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey and Andy Muschietti's The Flash. Muschietti will direct The Brave and the Bold.
Andy Muschietti's Batman: The Brave and the Bold film at DC Studios has found its writer in Christina Hodson, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Jan. 21.
Hodson, of course, is no stranger to the DC mythos, having penned Cathy Yan's Harley Quinn-based adventure, Birds of Prey ,and Muschietti's polarizing The Flash. James Gunn, the social media savvy co-head of DC Studios at Warner Bros., neither confirmed nor denied the report online.
Replying to a fan question on Threads earlier this month, Gunn wrote that the project was still waiting on "an actionable script" before making any further announcements.
What is Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie about?
Announced back in 2023 as one of the premiere titles in the DC Universe's first phase—dubbed "Gods and Monsters"—The Brave and the Bold will allegedly draw inspiration from Grant Morrison's acclaimed take on Bruce Wayne and his adopted son, Damien. The latter just so happens to be Gunn's preferred version of Robin.
"He's a little assassin who Batman tries to get in line," Gunn noted in 2023. "This is the story of the two of them and the beginning of the Bat Family in the DCU."
Muschietti was announced as director a few months later in June 2023, though "his ultimate involvement depends on several factors including timing and availability" wrote THR, alluding to the filmmaker's commitments on IT: Welcome to Derry, which is expected to run for two more seasons on HBO.
There is also Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part II to consider.
“It’s been a journey that is taking longer than I would’ve wanted for a lot of reasons, a lot of personal reasons," Reeves told THR in November 2025, "but the most important reason is getting it to a place where I just felt like it was the best script we could possibly write.”
Taking place outside the main cinematic universe Gunn is shepherding along with Peter Safran, the Robert Pattinson-led sequel written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin will bear the "Elseworlds" label (a reference to the non-canon DC comic stories set in alternate realities). Given that the movie is gearing up for production this spring, Gunn wants to focus on one Dark Knight at a time.
"We're well into Batman 2 and I wouldn't want to cloud the Batsphere until after that," he continued on Threads, adding in a different reply: "I'm also not going to have two Batman movies come out in the same year."
At this time, The Batman: Part II is scheduled for theatrical release on Oct. 1, 2027.
