Masters of The Universe: Nicholas Galitzine Has The Power in Live-Action He-Man Teaser (WATCH)
Starring Nicholas Galitzine (He-Man), Idris Elba (Man at Arms), Jared Leto (Skeletor), Kristen Wiig (Roboto), and Camila Mendes (Teela), Masters of the Universe arrives on the big screen June 5.
Nearly 40 years since Hollywood tried and failed to bring He-Man to the world of live-action, Travis Knight (co-founder of the Laika animation studio and director of Bumblebee) is taking another stab at, as seen in the official teaser trailer for Masters of the Universe.
Red, White & Royal Blue's Nicholas Galitzine leads this fresh adaption as Prince Adam Glenn, who reunites with the Sword of Power after 15 years of exile in our grounded, humdrum reality. The weapon grants Adam "THE POWER!!!" and returns him to the wondrous land of Eternia where our hero must free his home from the dreaded reign of that evil bag of bones—Skeletor (Jared Leto). If we're being honest, the iconic villain is looking pretty badass in this debut footage.
Along the way, the protagonist destined to become He-Man joins forces with allies like Teela (Camila Mendes), Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), Roboto (Kristen Wiig), and the green tiger known as Cringer. The cast also includes Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley.

"Honestly, I knew when I got the script that it was very unlike the type of movies that kind of sit in its genre or bracket," Galitzine teased in a December 2025 interview with ScreenRant. "There was something incredibly human about the story, and so humorous, which are two things that I really look for as an actor ... Obviously, the action and the set pieces are incredible, but there's a really human story in there as well. I think if I'm going to do something with that level of spectacle, I have to have that as well."
Having languished in development hell across different studios for almost 20 years, Masters of the Universe will be distributed by Amazon MGM Studios. The screenplay was written by Chris Butler and Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham.
The film is produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin. Executive producers are Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David Bloomfield.
When does the Masters of the Universe movie come out?
Masters of the Universe (currently unrated) arrives exclusively in theaters Friday, June 5. Tickets are not yet on sale.
