Sarah J. Maas Reveals ACOTAR Book 6 & 7, Details TV Adaptation's Delay
A Court of Thorns and Roses author Sarah J. Maas finally revealed details about the next installments of her best-selling book series.
Sarah J. Maas is answering the call from A Court of Thorns and Roses fans.
Nearly five years after the last ACOTAR book was published, the best-selling author announced novel six hits shelves Oct. 27 and seven Jan. 12.
“It's taken a while, because it took me a while to find the right story and to be in the right head space,” Maas shared on the March 4 episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. “What poured out of me was this, and it poured out very quickly.”
The Crescent City writer dropped a bombshell of a video tease in July 2025 on Instagram. Next to "First drafts DONE" in the caption, she closed a notebook labeled "ACOTAR 6," followed by what BookTok has debated to be either the number eight or an arrow drawing.
She's now set the record straight on Arrow-Gate.
“I guess I have really s---tty handwriting,” Maas joked. “I'm ashamed of this. That was not intentional at all. But I will say that that was ACOTAR six with the arrow pointing forward to indicate things going ahead of that.”
The series, which began with its namesake novel in 2015, contains five books: A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, A Court of Frost and Starlight and A Court of Silver Flames.
The long-awaited update stopped short of detailing page counts, and whose POV will drive these new stories. But Maas did elaborate that there’s four parts in the works, with part one being ACOTAR 6, parts two and three being ACOTAR 7, followed by a fourth part arriving later.
“It's meant to be read ideally as one massive, massive story as opposed to a trilogy,” she explained. “I've never told a story that way. This is how it wants to come out.”
While the first four books in the series hit shelves like clockwork, one May release after another from 2015 to 2018, fans endured a four-year interim between A Court of Frost and Starlight and 2021’s A Court of Silver Flames.
Despite previously announced plans to bring Feyre Archeron to the small screen, Maas has once more asked for patience as she charts a new course for her franchise.
“It's been a little while since you guys have had something, so I'm focusing on that,” she noted. “I look at any TV movie adaptation as kind of like another facet of the worlds that I've created, and it's something that I want to be in charge of.”
