Who Plays the New Killer Robot Amelia in M3GAN 2.0? What to Know About Ivanna Sakhno

Will M3GAN meet her match in the Autonomous Military Engagement Logistics and Infiltration Android?

By Josh Weiss

If you thought M3GAN was scary, then just wait until you meet AMELIA.

Standing for Autonomous Military Engagement Logistics and Infiltration Android, the terrifying antagonist of M3GAN 2.0 (click here for tickets) was built from M3GAN's original specs and designed to be the perfect infiltrator/assassin. The US government sees her as the perfect weapon and the dawn of a new global arms race...until she goes rogue and starts murdering humans left and right.

“In a lot of ways, Amelia is M3GAN 2.0 — she’s M3GAN rebuilt with military hardware, and her sole purpose is revenge,” writer, director, and executive producer Gerard Johnstone said in an official statement. “For all of M3GAN's flaws, at least she was designed to protect Gemma’s niece, Cady. But Amelia seems to have been reprogrammed, and once she becomes self-aware and goes rogue, all she has is animosity toward the people who created her, tortured her and treated her like a slave. It raises this fascinating question: if we build robots to serve us, and they become self-aware, how are they going to feel about us?"

Who plays the new killer robot in M3GAN 2.0?

AMELIA is played by 27-year-old Ukrainian actress, Ivanna Sakhno, whom you may recognize as Jaeger pilot Viktoriya from Pacific Rim Uprising (now available to own from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment) or Baylan Skoll's apprentice, Shin Hati, in Ahsoka.

She has also appeared in High Fidelity, The Spy Who Dumped Me, and Let it Snow.

“I don't see Amelia as a psychopathic robot,” Sakhno said in a statement around release. “I see her as somebody who is trying to understand her own identity, her own wiring, and trying to understand why she was put into this world in a way that is quite cruel and traumatizing. She is a highly advanced A.I. that was created for military purposes, but throughout this storyline we see her beginning to question her own autonomy. She is, to me, a living being grappling with existential questions in a world that may not be ready for her existence just yet.”
